ICE will conduct raids in 3 major cities per week: map of detentions in the United States

On January 28th, 1,179 people were detained in various raids in the United States, the highest number of arrests recorded to date.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will seek to expand its operations, through a large number of raids, in three major cities in United States per week, as revealed by the NBC News outlet. 

According to the report, ICE's action, through its immigration agents, also aims to “apprehend 1,200 immigrants each day

These actions are in line with President Donald Trump's promise, who, since the beginning of his term, has made clear his policy of mass deportations

According to sources cited by NBC News, the raids will take place in three different cities, throughout a week, aiming to “accomplish” the set goal. 

As per information provided by the same outlet, raids have been conducted in the following cities: 

  • New York, New York 
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Los Angeles, California 
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Phoenix, Arizona
  • San Diego, California 
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Miami, Florida
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Dallas, Irving, Arlington, Fort Worth, Texas
  • Seattle, Washington

Last week, a raid in the city of Aurora, one hour from Denver, Colorado was revealed. However, and according to information provided by the Department of Homeland Security, this was canceled due to alleged leaks to the press, posing, as mentioned, a security risk for the operation's execution by the involved agents. 

Thus far, and since the start of these activities, the operation has had the presence of Secretary of Birth Security, Kristi Noem

Detained Immigrants

According to official figures from the U.S. government, ICE detained 1,179 people on January 28th, this being the highest number recorded since Trump returned to the U.S. presidency. 

Out of the aforementioned number, only 52%, 613, were consideredcriminal arrests” of immigrants with criminal records in the United States or other countries. 

Just in the past week, ICE announced that it had detained over 3,500 individuals, representing a daily average of 64%. The raids have been carried out by various agencies, such as the DEA, FBI, among others, in at least ten major U.S. cities like New York, Miami, Chicago, and more. 

Prior to the start of the raids in the United States, Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border on January 20th, in order to use allocated funds for the activities of the Department of Defense, to carry out infrastructure at the Mexico border.
